En apenas cinco metros cuadrados levantan una gran urbe. Construyen sus viviendas con cáscaras de nueces y almendras. Domestican ácaros, pulgas y bacterias. Con nada más que una hormiga y una semilla de calabaza celebran un banquete. Se precisan microscopios para distinguir sus zapatos, gafas, llaves, cubiertos, relojes, martillos, lápices…
Cuando rogaron protección jurídica a fin de evitar que sus poblaciones fueran arrasadas por las actividades de los hombres que nos atribuimos tamaño normal, me animaron a que los representara ante el tribunal de La Haya. Después de pasarme toda la primavera consultándolo con la almohada, empecé a consultarlo con la toalla, en la playa, junto a mi familia, lejos de las carpetas en las que acumulo testimonios, informes de investigaciones y relaciones de incidentes. Mi respuesta ha sido afirmativa. Defenderé a esos vulnerables seres más pequeños que insectos y, no obstante, reconocidos como humanos por la ONU.

I give Bulgari a lot of credit for going to the trouble of engineering a whole new micro-caliber link for these watches. I don’t think it would have been necessary to do so for them to find an audience with the (very) well-heeled Bulgari enthusiasts for which they are intended, but the fact that Bulgari continues to make sure that mechanical movement integrity is part of their offerings is a rare sign of equal interest in high jewelry-making, and fine watchmaking.
As a devout Baby-G disciple of the early ’00s and a current Pharrell/Nigo/Jacob & Co. legacy-obsessed watch-writer, this collection definitely fits in with my desire to talk about ’00s watches to anybody who will listen. Despite having lived the 2000s in real time I will admit (with help from Gen Z and their link social media platform of choice) that the 00s are very much still «trending.» And I promise you that big flashy watches will be back any day now. You can hold me to it.
